    The Galena High School Grizzly Battalion is currently proud to report a current enrollment of 176 highly motivated Cadets. This represents an increase of 17 cadets from the previous school year, attributed to a robust recruiting initiative at our feeder school, Marce Herz Middle School.  Open variance has also allowed for the program to grow. The Grizzly Battalion continues to have strong recruiting effort using the pathway nights and student engagement, a significant retention rate that led to a sizable number of first-year students joining JROTC.

    The Grizzly Battalion has established three primary goals for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.

    1.  Maintain a 100% Graduation rate:  We aim to sustain our 100% graduation rate for our 25 senior Cadets.
    2.   Achieve an 80% pass rate: We strive to ensure that at least 80% of our 23 MS-3 Cadets pass the Military Science CTE Certification exam.
    3.   Increase Retention Rates:  Our goal is to enhance the average retention rates across all Military Science levels by 2% each year over the next four years, or until we achieve a sustained retention rate of at least 70% at all levels. 

    Planned Activities and Initiatives:

    To make the 2024-2025 school year memorable, the Galena Grizzly Battalion has planned several engaging activities:

    1.  Field trips:  We will organize field trips to historical locations within Nevada.
    2.  Competitions:  The Battalion will compete at the Raider Nationals in October 2024 and continue to dominate in our Drones and Vex Robotic programs, with plans for a return trip to Nationals and Worlds.
    3. Service-Learning Projects: We will collaborate with Marce Herz Middle School to mentor 6th, 7th and 8th graders during their assemblies and provide demonstrations featuring the JROTC Color Guard and Drill Team.  Additionally, we propose a service-learning project to paint the Galena “G.”
    4. Annual Christmas Gala:  We are excited to announce our “Annual Christmas Gala” scheduled for December 13, 2024.

    The Galena Grizzly Battalion is committed to fostering leadership, community engagement, and academic excellence among our Cadets.  We look forward to a successful and impactful school year.
