Galena High School
"The Grizzly Battalion"
SY 2023-2024
Enrollment: 159 Established: 1992
31st Battalion Commander: C/Lieutenant Colonel Gianna Beck
Battalion Sergeant Major: C/Command Sergeant Major David Chinas
The Galena High School Grizzly Battalion currently has 159 highly motivated Cadets. The Grizzly Battalion’s enrollment increased by 3 cadets from last school year due to a strong recruiting effort at Marce Herz Middle School feeder. The increase of 3 cadets is misleading. This led the Grizzly Battalion to have a strong recruiting effort, significant retention rate and a sizeable number of freshmen join JROTC. The Grizzly Battalion has three goals for the School Year 2023-2024. First, we want to have a 100 percent graduation rate for our 23 Senior Cadets. Next, we want to ensure we have an 80 percent pass rate for our 27 MS-3s on the Military Science CTE Certification exam. Thirdly, increase average Galena retention rates from each Military Science level by 2-percent each year over the next four years, or once we are sustaining at least a 70 percent retention in all levels. The Galena Grizzly Battalion wants to make this year memorable as we plan trips to the Reno Air Show, to drill competitions in California, field trips to historical locations in Nevada; for our Service-Learning Project, we plan work with the middle school mentoring 6th, 7th and 8th graders with their homework and provide demonstrations with JROTC Color Guard and Drill Team. The Cadet would also like to do an additional Service-Learning Project of painting the Galena G. Also, we will hold our “Annual Food Drive” to support St. Vincent’s Charities from 1-22 November. We know being a Grizzly is great! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Grizzlies!!!!!!!!!!!!!
