    Mission Statement

    Washoe County School District’s mission is to provide a quality education that prepares all children for a successful future, and our substitute teachers play an integral part. Substitute teaching is a demanding job that requires positive attitudes, organization, mental preparation, flexibility, knowledge and skill. We value our Substitute Teachers who contribute to student achievement through their commitment to quality education!
    Substitute Teachers provide a safe and supportive environment for students entrusted in their care. They play a vital role in enabling us to maintain continuity of student academic achievement, thus maximizing the potential of each child passing through our doors. Substitute Services would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your willingness to serve our children and our schools.

  • GREAT NEWS: We recently confirmed with the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) that the Praxis Exams and Parental Involvement and Family Engagement course is no longer required for a Substitute License. In addition, NDE has removed the requirement of completing 6 credits to renew your substitute license. You can view your license at https://online.nvdoe.org/#/VerifyLicense which we encourage you to do to ensure the information is accurate and to verify your expiration date.

    In order to renew your license you will need to create an account in OPAL https://online.nvdoe.org/#/.  There are a number of questions and requirements to complete including having your fingerprints collected and processed. You can start your renewal process 9 months in advance.  If you have licensure questions, please contact the NDE at (775) 687-5980.
