School police have secured the campus and teaching and learning will continue. An update will be posted here by 9:40 a.m. at the latest.

    The Code Red Lockdown at Galena High School has been lifted following an extensive search of the campus conducted by Washoe County School Police, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Highway Patrol, REMSA, and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District.

     

    An initial report of shots fired was determined to be unfounded. There were no students on campus and staff members were evacuated safely. This is the final update about this event.

    Galena High School remains in a Code Red Lockdown due to police activity on campus. Students are not on campus today and staff have been evacuated. This is an evolving situation. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

  • 8/15/22 3:47 p.m. Virginia Palmer Elementary School is now utilizing a controlled release to allow families to pick up their students. Families are asked to come through the front door and pick up their children. They should bring identification with them. Bus transportation will be provided as planned to students who ride the bus. This will be the last update provided.

  • 8/15/22 3:30 p.m. - There is no additional information about Virgnia Palmer Elementary. It is still under a code yellow secured campus. The next interval update will be no later than 4:15 p.m.

  • 8/15/22 3:00 p.m. Virginia Palmer Elementary School is still under a code yellow secured campus. Everyone at the school is safe, however, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office has requested that school not be dismissed until the police situation has been resolved. Families are asked to please not come to school to pick up their children until the situation has ended. The school will notify families when it is safe to pick up their students. The next interval update will be provided by 3:30 p.m.

Responsible Threat Reporting

If you see any threats against schools or students on social media, please notify the police rather than sharing the threat further on social media. This is the most effective way to stop any actual threat of danger, and prevent the spread of rumors.
