Countdown to Graduation 2025

The Washoe County School District celebrates the class of 2025 with our annual Countdown to Graduation. Academic achievers, artists, athletes, leaders - each of these 19 students is outstanding in their own way, overcoming obstacles, succeeding in school, and making plans for a bright future. Beginning May 20th we share their stories on our social media channels and website - so be sure to follow along and share as you meet each amazing graduate. Congratulations, Class of 2025!

Aaron Brown
Video: Innovations High School
Aaron has worked hard to succeed, is a strong student, and has engaged in a number of successful internship opportunities during his time at Innovations High School.

Nayeli Cruz
Nayeli Cruz has been a cheerleader, JROTC Battalion Commander, and this year took first place in the Army JROTC Western Regional Air Rifle Championship. She has excelled academically and plans to attend UNR to study psychology.

Yadira Gallegos
Yadira thanks her Wooster counselors and teachers for guiding her to academic success and graduation. She takes AP and Honors level courses and has enjoyed metalworking, too. Yadira was awarded a scholarship by the Reno Rotary Club and plans to study psychology in college.

Ileana Ramirez

Ileana has been a member of Student Council, a community volunteer, an extracurricular club officer and member, volleyball team captain, and is currently Student Body President. She is graduating near the top of her class and is attending Boston University this Fall.

Nick Cote
Active in music, academics, and his church, Nick is an Eagle Scout whose final project involved building a fence around a local preschool playground to keep students safer. He will attend UNR on a National Merit Scholarship.

Bianca Hernandez

Bianca is one of the current presidents of her school’s National Honor Society, elected by her fellow students, and has overcome many challenges on her way to the graduation stage. She is taking nursing courses at TMCC as she prepares for the BSN/RN program at UNR.

Joey Oberholtzer
Video: North Star Online School
Working full-time while pursuing his diploma, Joey plans to go to college and earn his MBA degree. A class favorite among his peers and the staff at North Star Online School, he has worked hard to succeed.

Yoselin Medina Ramirez
Though her freshman year was difficult due to the loss of loved ones, with the help of school staff and friends, Yoselin persevered. Today she takes AP and honors classes to challenge herself academically, is a member of the swim team, Student Leadership, and numerous other school clubs. Yoselin is a member of Upward Bound which has helped guide her and prepare her to move on to college!

Elizabeth Wegg
Elizabeth takes honors, AP, and UNR concurrent courses, is a member of the Reed tennis team, and Upward Bound Math/Science. She will be first-generation in her family attending college and hopes to become a wildlife conservationist. Drawing on her personal experience, Elizabeth traveled to Washington, D.C. this year to speak with lawmakers about the importance of supporting TRIO and Upward Bound.

Sedona Martinson
Video: RISE Academy for Adult Achievement
Sedona has overcome many challenges on her road to graduation thanks to her perseverance and hard work. She serves as an inspiration to other students, advocates for herself, and has a positive outlook on her future. Sedona plans to attend TMCC in the Fall and thanks RISE for helping her get there.

Roselyn “Rosie” Banuelos Alaniz
Rosie is a singer, dancer, cheerleader, an enthusiastic “We the People” team member, and is enrolled in Incline High School's Personalized Learning Academy studying Forensic Investigations. Rosie intends to study criminology and psychology in college and aspires to work for the FBI someday.

Sioux Edgecomb Stocklas
Sioux grew up on a ranch 30 miles outside of Gerlach. She is a visual artist who loves to draw and paint. She is also an active participant in Gerlach community activities and serves as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. She plans to attend UNR in the fall to study biology.

Stephanie Zaraco

Stephanie has been in Student Leadership, is Senior Class President, is an academic star, and has played varsity soccer all four years of school. She uses her Student Leadership role to advocate for others, make their voices heard, and raise awareness of autism. Stephanie plans to work toward becoming a pediatrician.

Elias Lara
Elias has overcome numerous obstacles on his educational path. As a testament to his grit, determination, and intense focus on his academic goals, he will graduate early from high school!

Finn Smith
Finn has been very involved at Reno High School, including in Student Leadership, Student Voice, Cheer, and the Red House Project Signature Academy. He is a member of the Jazz Band and won a Scholastic Arts Gold Key Award for his Installation Art. Finn plans to attend art school and study sculpture.

Kyle Moyer

Kyle is pursuing a career in culinary arts. While perfecting his craft in the AACT kitchen he created and opened AACT’s Pizza Parlor. He has also excelled at academics including being dual-enrolled in TMCC Spanish classes.

Hamna Yasir
Hamna and her family immigrated to the United States in 2017. She takes AP and dual-credit courses, earned Seals of Biliteracy in both Urdu and Spanish, achieved a 3.933 grade point average (5.3 weighted), is a member of “We the People,” the Red Cross Club, and Speech and Debate! She plans to earn a law degree in the future.

Samantha Millhoff
In her years at Picollo, Samantha has enjoyed swimming, bowling, cooking, socializing with her peers, engaging in group activities and assisting teachers and staff at school!

Lillian Gilpin
Video: Spanish Springs High School
Lillian Gilpin is a member of the Cougars Battalion JROTC, is a nationally-recognized artist, takes AP and dual-credit courses, is a member of the vocal ensemble, and has sung the national anthem at several school events. She plans to study vocal performance at UNR beginning this Fall.
