After 18 years of service, Sharon Kennedy retired from her position as the principal at Incline Middle School last summer. During her time with the Washoe County School District, she served as a teacher, site administrator, and principal. Most recently, Ms. Kennedy served on the WCSD Reopening Task Force where she worked with District staff to prepare for a return to learning using various models in August 2020. Her knowledge and passion were an asset to the task force in making these plans for WCSD staff members, students, and families.
Prior to her career in education, Sharon Kennedy served as a registered nurse for more than two decades. Ms. Kennedy’s unique experience in both education and healthcare will be useful in her capacity as a school board trustee during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Ms. Kennedy was sworn in as a trustee at the September 22, 2020 meeting to fill the vacant seat in District A and this temporary term will end at midnight on January 3, 2021 when a newly-elected trustee will fill the position. In her capacity as a trustee, Kennedy’s background will allow her to become engaged quickly with her understanding of school budgets, staffing, and funding resources. During her interview she said that she is not seeking a career in politics but is looking forward to serving and making a difference.
