WCSD Health Insurance:
Welcome to Washoe County School District! If you have secured a position with WCSD that is 27.5 hours or more per week, you are eligible for benefits with us. We offer Medical, Prescription, Dental, Vision, Life, and Voluntary Products. If you have questions on your benefits, please reach out to our HR/Benefits office at 775-348-0321 or benefits@washoeschools.net
What does it mean to be self-funded?
The Washoe County School District Health Insurance Fund is self-funded. Being self-funded means that WCSD is responsible for the paying the claims of our members. For example, if you are on the PPO plan, when you go an in-network doctor, you are responsible for your co-pay, but WCSD pays the remainder of your claim.
WCSD partners with many different vendors to create a rich plan for WCSD employees. As you navigate your health insurance, if you are unsure who you should be reaching out to, our WCSD Benefits Department is happy to help point you in the right direction. Please reach out to our HR/Benefits office at 775-348-0321 or benefits@washoeschools.net if you are looking for support.
Medical, Prescription and Dental Insurance:
WCSD partners with Anthem to provide our Medical, Prescription and Dental insurance. Anthem is a great contact for questions you have about providers that are in-network, claims you have, and EOBs you have received. We encourage you to log into Anthem online or download the Sydney app to view your insurance and your health insurance cards.
*Medicare Part D Credibility Notification: Washoe County School District has determined that the prescription drug coverage offered by the District is, on average for all plan participants, expected to pay out as much as standard Medicare prescription drug coverage pays and is therefore considered Creditable Coverage. Because your existing coverage is Creditable Coverage, you can keep this coverage and not pay a higher premium (a penalty) if you later decide to join a Medicare drug plan.
Vision Insurance:
WCSD partners with VSP to provide our Vision insurance. VSP is a great contact for questions you have about providers that are in-network, claims you have, and EOBs you have received specifically on your vision insurance. You will NOT receive a card for your vision insurance. When accessing vision care, please share your coverage is through VSP in partnership with WCSD.
Life Insurance:
Our Life Insurance vendor is Standard. WCSD offers a term group life insurance policy to all benefits eligible employees. Your life insurance policy to based on the position you currently hold. We encourage you to regularly update your life insurance beneficiaries. If this is something you would like to do, please reach out to benefits@washoeschools.net
LTD Insurance:
Our Long-Term Disability (LTD) Insurance vendor is Standard. Per the negotiated agreements, our Administrators, Pro-Techs, and Psychologists have access to this policy.
Voluntary Policies:
If you have policies with American Fidelity, you will have the opportunity to meet and confirm your policies. More information on when and how to do so, is coming soon. Please continue to check your WCSD email and our website for updates.
