Community Schools Approach
Schools are a central location for our diverse communities. Although many students ride busses to school, and others walk and ride bikes, the school is a place where families congregate intermittently if not daily. Schools are a welcoming environment, one in which the care of our children is entrusted. Our central mission as an educational organization is student learning. As we consider the multitude of factors that influence student learning, we must recognize the central influence of the family. This includes, but isn’t limited, to a variety of stressors that a family may encounter. To remain family focused and learning focused, there are creative ways in which we can broaden the support we can provide within our schools. Through this we can eliminate barriers to families and, hence, the students we serve. Our panel members will discuss what may be referred to as a Community Schools approach and the co-location of critical services.
