Children in Transition: Resources for Staff

  • Aligned with the McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth Act and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the primary goals of WCSD’s Children in Transition (CIT) Program are to:

    1. Identify and enroll children and youth experiencing homelessness,

    2. Support enrollment stability, and

    3. Eliminate barriers that impact academic success

    CIT Program objectives are:

    1. Ensure WCSD personnel are aware of children experiencing homelessness and foster children and their needs.

    2. Collaborate with agencies to locate children experiencing homelessness and foster children and youth.

    3. Help to facilitate school enrollment, provide transportation, nutrition, and health services.

    4. Provide transportation to the student’s school of origin when it is deemed in the best interest of the student.

    5. Coordinate services to meet the special needs of children who are experiencing homelessness.

    6. Reduce and remove barriers to education so that students can achieve academic success.

The Children in Transition program collaborates with our community through generous donations to provide students with backpacks, school supplies, personal care items, shoes, clothing, and food.
