    What does a PCP do?

    1. PCP is a patient's go-to expert for health-related issues.
    2. They can treat a wide range of illnesses and injuries. 
    3. They can screen for chronic conditions like cancer, high blood pressure and diabetes.
    4. They can help you manage your health and access specialty care when needed .

    Lab work, numbers and what they mean:

    BMI: Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measurement of body composition based on height and weight. An elevated BMI is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, hypertension, diabetes, certain cancers, sleep apnea, arthritis and more. 

    Blood Pressure: High blood pressure is an independent risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease. Lifestyle plays an important role in blood pressure management.

    Cholesterol: High levels of total cholesterol are associated with a risk of heart disease.

    Other important things you can discuss with your doctor:

    • Review of your medical and family history
    • Screenings based on your age, gender and risk factors (cancer screenings)
    • Discussion of health goals and lifestyle habits (diet, exercise, tobacco use)
    • Creation or update of a personalized prevention plan
