The Washoe County School District student body has continued to diversify over the past decade: currently, more than 55% of our students self-describe as students of color. Our students’ backgrounds reflect the changing demographics of the broader community, and as such, the District is intentionally ensuring that their voices are included and elevated.
The Multicultural Outreach specialist supports the district by working with families and community leaders to identify and implement effective channels of communication. At the same time, works with district departments to ensure communication and engagement efforts are inclusive and meet the needs of all families and community organizations.
Engaging with communities of color that have historically been underserved is an ongoing effort that requires time and collaboration, we serve as a resource to schools and departments to reach that goal.
