Mission Statement
As a committee to the Board of Trustees, the function of the School Naming Committee is to select and make recommendations to the Board of Trustees proposed names of new schools and, when appropriate, the renaming of an existing school . Naming and renaming efforts shall be conducted as a cooperative effort between the District, the involved school(s) and the community. The District will take advantage of every opportunity to involve the community in applicable phases of the naming process. The Committee operates in accordance with Board Policy 7110, Naming of Schools and other District Facilities.Current Issues
With the passage of WC 1, the district will be building fifteen new schools over the next several years, and each of those schools needs a name. The committee will take nominations and rankings from the public for each school, and will then narrow down to a set of names to recommend to the Board of Trustees. Ultimately, the Board of Trustees will make the final decisions about the names of schools.
