Who Can Be on a Committee?

  • The Board of Trustees supports the use of committees to advise the Board and provide a variety of perspectives regarding educational programs, safety, operations, financial reporting, maintenance, and supporting services. The work of committees helps ensure programs and other services are relevant to address current standards; meet the needs of students and families; and have appropriate resources to support high quality student outcomes.

    The Washoe County School District is looking for individuals to serve as a member of the Committees of the Board of Trustees or Superintendent. Most committees are open to members of the general public; some have geographic requirements or openings for parents, students, and staff. Committee terms are typically two years and expire in the summer. If you have the time to volunteer and are passionate about making a difference in the District, then we want to hear from you.

    The application period for committees with on-going vacancies will remain open until the seat(s) has been filled.  Please see the list below for any vacancies.  For information on vacancies, please contact that committee directly.

    Current Committee Openings:

    Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) Committee - 1 Community member with a background in finance or economics with a term expiring December 31, 2025

    Council on Family Resource Centers - 1 State or local elected official for a term ending June 30, 2026 and 1 Community Representative with a term ending June 30, 2025

    Student Attendance Advisory Committee - 1 Parent/Guardian of a student currently enrolled in the Washoe County School District for a term ending June 30, 2026

    Audit Committee - 1 Community member with a background in business, finance, auditing or the law for a term ending June 30, 2026

    Safe and Healthy Schools Commission - 1 Community member with experience in emergency services and 1 at-large community member for terms ending June 30, 2026; 1 student currently enrolled in a Washoe County School District high school for a term ending June 30, 2025

How Do I Apply?

  • Committee Application

    Once applications are received, individuals who meet the requirements will be contacted for next steps in the process. Ultimately, the Board of Trustees or Superintendent, as applicable to the committee, approves the appointment.
