Students may earn a 1/2 (.50) credit by providing evidence of 60 hours of community service. Community Service is offered on a semester basis. Registration must be completed before hours count.

Hours served to religious organizations, teams, the student’s family business, or private business, are not eligible for Community Service credit. Organization must be 501C3 non-profit. Students are not eligible for Community Service credit if they are supervised by a parent or close relative.

The requirements of the course are listed below:

     1.  Please email Extended Studies extendedstudies@washoeschools.net three weeks prior to the beginning of the semester:
    • Describing the organization
    • The responsibilities the student will perform

     2.  The registration must be completed and approved by Extended Studies prior to the student counting participation hours.

      • After receiving notification that the proposed Community Service activity is approved by Extended Studies, parents must complete a registration form.
    • The Community Service Time Log documenting the hours of service must be submitted monthly, no later than 7 days after the end of the month to extendedstudies@washoeschools.net, with the exception of the final month. The final month’s completed time log must be submitted two (2) weeks before the end of the semester to Extended Studies.
    • S/U grades are awarded for Community Service and do not affect the student’s GPA.
    • Failure to fully and properly complete and submit the course requirements will result in the student’s forfeiture of the opportunity to earn credit through Community Service for the semester.
