Welcome to Safe Routes to School

Safe Routes to School invites you to participate in Walk to School Day on September 12, 2024.  This annual event involves communities from across the country walking and rolling to school on the same day.  These events connect with many issues that communities care about, like creating safer and more walkable routes to school; building a sense of community or school spirit; and inspiring families to use their feet for the school commute more often.  This is also a great opportunity to promote a broader message of safety and support for safe, active travel in general.

Only 20% of school-aged youth meet the daily recommendations for physical activity.  Your participation in Walk to School Day gives students time for physical activity, a sense of independence and time to connect with parents, friends, and neighbors.  Communities also see less traffic congestion.

Please consider our invitation to participate in the Walk to School Day.  We look forward to hearing from you and discussing your involvement. You can reach us via email at SafeRoutestoSchool@washoeschools.net or phone: (775)333-3782 or (775)348-0288.
