Quarterly Class Size Reduction (CSR) Reporting for Grades 1-3
-
Nevada Revised Statues (NRS) 388.725 requires school districts to report quarterly, on their websites, information related to average daily attendence, class sizes for grades 1, 2, and 3, and an identification for which a variance from the prescribed pupil-teacher ratios was granted by the State Board of Education for each elementary school in the district. The quarterly reports posted at this website are intended to meet this requirement. Meeting class-size ratio requirements for each individual school by grade is difficult when enrollment by grade varies from school to school. Some schools may exceed the requirement while others may be under the requirement. Adding another teacher to the particular grade not meeting the requirement is cost prohibitive as the State has not provided sufficient funding for the District to do so. However, the Washoe County School District, as a whole for each grade, strives to meet the overall requirements for class-size ratios.Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) Chapter 388.700 requires, for each quarter of a school year, that the ratio of pupils per licensed full-time teacher in classes where core curriculum is taught must not exceed 16 to 1 in grades 1 and 2, and must not exceed 18 to 1 in grade 3.
To allow school districts flexibility in addressing budget shortfalls, Senate Bill 555 of the 2019 Legislature allows a school district the option of increasing class size to achieve ratios of no more than 17 to 1 in grades 1 and 2, and no more than 20 to 1 in grade 3.
