    To what extent is the term “ Renaissance” a valid concept for a distinct

    period in early modern European history?

    Types of Thesis Statements/CLAIMS

    1. X, Y, Z= Answers the question using 3 categories 

    Example: The American colonist succeeded in the War for Independence

    because they fought on their own soil, used innovative fighting techniques,

     

     

     

    and had emotional attachment to the cause.

    2. Cause and Effect= States a cause and effect that together answers the question

    Example: Although controversial at the time, Russia’s beard tax successfully

    encouraged the peasant class to embrace westernization and furthered

    Peter the Great's program to bring Russian society closer to that of Western Europe.

    "Although"= This is a good way to start a thesis/CLAIM.
