Important Information
-
- 8th Grade Parents: Last Thursday your student received their course registration form from Spanish Springs High School (SSHS). They watched a video about course registration created by the Spanish Springs High School Counselors. Feel free to watch and discuss again with your child: https://youtu.be/9DbeAtXWCpo?si=laZZwLOdL5ZwLf26. Please review and sign their course registration form, and remind your student to bring the form back on Monday, March 10th as the SSHS counselors will be at Shaw on this day to collect these forms and answer any questions they may have.
- Families! Don't forget to order your student’s yearbook for the 2024-2025 school year. Ordering is easy through the Lifetouch website. Go to ybpay.com and use the school code 12523725. Place your order before May 2 2025 to ensure that your student gets one.
- Spirit Week is here: Monday – dress as your kindergarten self or wear pink; Tuesday pattern vs plain or wear red; Wednesday is wacky Wednesday or wear blue; Thursday is St. Patricks War – 6th grade wears yellow, 7th grade wears green, and 8th grade wears black; Friday is Team Colors day and our spirit assembly and activity day
- Career Day is Tuesday 3/11! We have over 40 volunteers who have generously offered to share their career path with our students. We are excited and very grateful to open our doors to you and to offer our students a glimpse into careers they might not have ever considered.
- For any 8th grade boys interested in playing football at SSHS next year, Coach Hummell will be at Shaw giving information on the program and process to try out. Coach will be in the gym at 7/8 lunch on Wednesday.
- Looking for a sweet treat for Easter or just because? The Strategies department is fundraising with See's Candy this spring with some yummy treats just in time for Easter. There are two ways you can order your candy either using the online store front or paper order that will need to be turned in to Mrs. Gallaher by April 1st in room 211. Get your orders in before the deadline and enjoy what See's Candies has to offer. See the attached flyer for ordering information.
- Cell Phone Policy: As you have heard in multiple communications from the district, the WCSD cell phone policy has been updated. In order for students to focus on learning throughout the day, cell phones at all schools must be away for the day. Shaw has always been an “Away for the Day” school, but we have updated our policy and expectations. One key change is that students are required to put their cell phone in a backpack as cell phones may not be kept in a pocket or on a student’s body during the school day. At Shaw, students may continue to use their cell phones during their lunchtime, but we may need to reconsider this privilege if this prevents students from truly keeping their focus off cell phones/social media etc. during the learning parts of the day. We will continue to monitor and communicate regarding this lunchtime privilege. The attached Administrative Regulation 5810 outlines the increased disciplinary outcomes for students who violate this policy as well as actions taken when students violate the policy. In addition, information about this districtwide policy can be found here: Phone Away and Learn Today / Phone Away and Learn Today. Students will be taught the policy expectations tomorrow and throughout this week.
- Homework Club: Students may come to our Math-focused homework club in Room 320 or all-other-content area homework club in the library. Students may work on homework and if they need help, there is a certified teacher available. The hours are 2:00 - 3:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Students must remain in the session for the full time unless the student shows us a text or call from you indicating that the student may leave early.
