Automotive Technology

This course will introduce students to the operational and scientific nature of the automotive component systems including fuel, intake, exhaust, ignition, lubrication, braking, cooling, and suspension systems. Practical application of safe work habits and the correct use of tools and precision test instruments will be emphasized throughout the course. By incorporating CTSOs, CTE, and Enhancing Safety Measures we will create a more comprehensive and industry-aligned Automotive Technology I course that not only covers the technical aspects but also prepares students for successful careers in the automotive field with a strong emphasis on safety and professionalism.

This course is a continuation of Automotive Technology I. This course provides intermediate automotive technology students with laboratory activities including tasks with advanced equipment to diagnose and service modern automotive systems. This course focuses on safety, engine repair, automatic transmission, manual transmission, manual drive train, drive axles, clutch systems, suspension and steering, heating and air conditioning, engine performance, braking systems, and basic electrical systems. The appropriate use of technology and industry-standard equipment is an integral part of this course. Cybersecurity

This course covers the fundamentals of computer hardware and software, as well as topics in safety procedures, design, maintenance, and repair, and an understanding of emerging technologies in this field. Methods for deciphering encrypted data and a working knowledge of hard drive configuration are also covered. Students will research the requirements of education and training careers and begin to develop a career portfolio. Students are required to participate in work-based learning at our onsite preschool and therefore are required to have no discipline or attendance issues. Any discipline issues during the year will result in potential removal from the course. This opportunity provides students with real-life work experiences where they can apply academic and technical skills and develop their employability. Note: This is the first class in a 2-year sequence. Students who complete all levels have the possibility to receive college credits and the NV Certificate of Skill Attainment. Coursework may include various work-based learning experiences such as internships and job shadowing, involvement in a school-based enterprise, completion of a capstone project, and/or portfolio development. This course may be repeated for additional instruction and credit. Students will be required to participate in a year long, off-site internship at a local school or business. Students must provide their own transportation to the internship. Students will also be required to take the Paraprofessional Praxis Exam. There is no additional cost for this exam.

Students are expected to mentor their peers at our onsite preschool. Students in this course will be working closely with preschoolers, families, and school staff. Family and Consumer Science Lab Assistant Course #8091-8092

Pre-Requisite: Family and Consumer Science Lab teacher approval (Teacher’s signature on registration form). Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above, good attendance record and no discipline issues. Junior or Senior standing only. Preference will be given to students who have passed FCS/Foods program classes.
This course is designed for students wishing to work in the lab as an assistant to learn (and use) lab skills/research techniques, computer applications, and general lab skills (Preparing Lab ingredients, retrieving supplies, filing, and other appropriate duties). Good citizenship, attendance, and trustworthiness are important traits required by all students in this program. Note: Students who do not consistently meet the qualifications and standards of this program can be dropped from this class with possible loss of credit.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have acquired entry-level skills for employment and be prepared for postsecondary education. The student will learn advanced command and staff principles, advanced level leadership theory, skills and application, critical thinking and decision-making skills. The student will spend the major portion of the year planning, organizing, and overseeing the execution of their units programs and activities, in essence, top level management and leadership. The student will act throughout the year as a classroom assistant instructor and will assign, prepare and present selected units of instruction to subordinate classes. Also, students will increase their knowledge in financial management and planning. Finally, fourth year Cadets will lead a Service-Learning Project and provide a capstone reflection briefing on their Military Science experience. This course counts for CTE credit.

This course is designed to introduce students to the field of sports medicine. It will provide students the opportunity to explore athletic training and sports medicine related fields. Students will receive instruction in sports medicine terminology, physical fitness, anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, injury evaluation and prevention procedures, and careers in sports medicine. Students will also demonstrate skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and sports injury management and rehabilitation. The Sports Medicine course is designed to provide a well-rounded and challenging academic experience for students interested in the Sports Medicine Field including athletic training, physical therapy, exercise science, medicine, nursing, or any other allied health or paramedical profession. This course is offered to students who have completed all content standards in a program and desire to pursue advanced study through investigation and in-depth research. Students are expected to work independently or in a team and consult with their supervising teacher for guidance. The supervising teacher will give directions, monitor, and evaluate the students’ topic of study. Coursework may include various work-based learning experiences such as internships and job shadowing, involvement in a school-based enterprise, completion of a capstone project, and/or portfolio development. This course may be repeated for additional instruction and credit. This course is designed to introduce students to the vocabulary, knowledge, and skills required for entry into health-related occupations. Students receive instruction in the vocabulary of human anatomy and physiology, basic health care skills, first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and healthcare practices. Students’ medical, ethical, and legal responsibilities pertaining to future careers in the health field will be integrated into the course. Students will also be introduced to health-related occupational skills required in the world of work. Upon completion of all requirements, this class will offer students 3 additional college credits- articulated with TMCC.

This course is designed to introduce students to the basic elements and skills needed to produce a video. Operating video cameras, script writing, editing equipment, microphones, and the process of On-Air program production are emphasized. Students will become familiar with video production techniques for a variety of purposes, including broadcast journalism. Students will be conducting project-based learning through creating commercials, short films, news packages, music videos and public service announcements. This course is a continuation of Video Production I. This course provides advanced video production students with instruction in advanced techniques and processes. Emphasis is placed on the advanced principles in pre/postproduction, editing techniques, studio and engineering procedures, and live broadcast skills. Students will become familiar with video production techniques for a variety of purposes, including broadcast journalism. The appropriate use of technology and industry-standard equipment is an integral part of this course. Upon successful completion of this course, students will have acquired entry-level skills for employment in this field. This class will be responsible for producing the daily video announcements that air to the entire school. Students will fill the roles of anchors, reporters, audio technicians, lighting technicians and directors. State testing.
