WELCOME MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS: GRADES 6-8

All students 6-8 will be expected to take 4 core classes and 1 elective. Electives will be broken down by semester.
Con-Current Enrollment:
It is your responsibility to enroll at your zoned school IF they are accepting enrollment AND to let North Star know if your student will be taking con-current courses at their zoned school.
Students will be scheduled into a full course load: 5 courses for grades 6-8 even if the zone school allows con-current enrollment.

Grades 6-8 Course Selection & G.A.T.E.
Course selection for grades 6-8: follows the prescribed courses for each grade level as indicated below: 4 core courses and 1 elective based on corresponding semester. (Students DO NOT select elective options they are pre-assigned)
1st SEMESTER ELECTIVE:
6th grade: Art
7th grade: MS Digital Arts
8th Grade: Ed Tech
2nd SEMESTER ELECTIVE:
6th grade-8th grade: PE/Health
We do offer Accelerated courses for students in grades 3-6 in ELA, Math and Science. Students are placed in Accelerated courses based on several factors including, but not limited to: GATE qualification as well as academic and assessment data.

***World Languages are not available for Middle School students through North Star at this time.
Courses may be available at your zone school
Please keep in mind that any high school courses taken in middle school will not earn high school credit. However, depending on the final grade, it could allow the student to advance to the next level when the student transitions to high school.
