Grading Policy
40%- Practice work and skill development
This may include but is not limited to:
- daily homework assignments
- study guides
- quizzes
- “rough drafts”
- journals
- many other “practice” items
60%- Summative assessment
This may include but is not limited to:
- tests and exams
- major projects
- presentations
- anything that a teacher may use to make a judgment of a student’s ability level or their mastery of curriculum and content
Late work Policy
Students will not be penalized for submitting assignments late if they are turned in prior to the module test. The reason for this is that doing so inaccurately changes a student’s grade and no longer shows what a student has truly learned. This does not mean that due dates and deadlines for student work are not important. Students will still be held accountable for due dates and deadlines. If students fail to meet the designated timeline, it will negatively impact their learning as they have not mastered the concept before the next concept is added.
Late work completed after the Module Test may only be turned in prior to the scheduled Test Retake. The retake will occur two weeks after the Module Test. Late work for the Module will not be accepted beyond the Test Retake date and will receive no credit.
Missing work will be recorded with a “M” in Infinite Campus, which calculates as a zero. The “0” will serve as a place holder until the assignment is turned in or until the assessment for that module/unit is complete.
Assessment Retake Policy
All students will be allowed one attempted retake per summative test. In unique circumstances, additional retake opportunities may be provided at the teacher’s discretion. Students will retake the entire test and the higher of the two test scores will be used for grading purpose.
In order to complete an Assessment Retake, students must do the following:
- Complete all required assignments within the assessed module
- Attend the scheduled test retake – This will typically take place during a Friday Advisory period
IT IS HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED THAT STUDENTS RETAKE ANY ASSESSMENT THAT HAS BEEN SCORED BELOW AN 80%. BECAUSE MATH BUILDS UPON ITSELF, HAVING MASTERED EACH CONTENT AREA WILL ALLOW FOR SUCCESS IN FOLLOWING MODULES.
Homework
Homework problems will be assigned from each guided practice/independent practice section of the modules within the Go Math book. These assignments will be given digitally through the HRW Go Math website where built-in tools, example problems, and helpful videos are included. The assignments are also graded automatically and provide students with immediate feedback. Completing this at-home practice is essential in each student’s mathematical growth and development. In addition to submitting the assignment through the Go Math website, students may also be required to show their work on a piece of binder paper to be turned in during class.
Extra Credit Policy
Extra credit is not allowed to be entered as part of a student’s academic classroom grade. Extra credit artificially inflates grades, and in doing so, does not accurately measure what a student knows and can do within the provided curriculum.
