2023 Ski Team Details
Team Goals
#1 rule in ski racing is to have FUN.
All athletes learn and improve their skiing both inside and outside the gates.
Win state championships for both Boys Team and Girls Team.
Preseason
Dry Land Training - Nov.-Dec. 2023, Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at the Galena football field. Please show up on time.
On Hill Training - Begins Dec. 13, 2023, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Sky Tavern.
Equipment
Hard ear helmet (ear pads must be fully covered by helmet shell and are not removable).
Deadlines
Registration signups are due prior to Time Trials.
Go to www.aktivate.com to sign up.
Processing time may take up to two weeks after registration is submitted.
Tryouts
Time Trials
Sat., Jan. 6, 2024, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Athletes must attend at least five (5) practices to be eligible to attend Time Trials.
How Race Teams are Picked
1. Team Time Trial
2. FIS World Ranking
3. USSA National Ranking
4. Attendance during practice season
5. Coaches decision
Race Teams will include 12 Varsity Girls and 12 Varsity Boys
Team Requirements
1. Be academically eligible - Athletes will miss school one day/week for race day during the ski season. If you cannot miss a school day, let coach know as soon as possible.
2. Represent Galena High School, your team, and yourself with distinction at dryland practice and at Sky Tavern.
3. Must be a strong intermediate/advanced skier. Able to ski in control and safely down any terrain at Mt. Rose Ski.
4. Have a Race Team pass to Sky Tavern - link provided in Dec.
5. All practices are MANDATORY. If you cannot be at practice, let Coach Jon know.
6. While skiing at Sky Tavern, stay with the team at all times!
7. If you need to leave practice early, sign out with a coach.
Transportation
Practice days: Parents may only drive athletes to practice and pick them up at Sky Tavern.
Note: No athletes may drive themselves to Mt. Rose Ski.
Race days: Parents may only drive athletes to practice and pick them up at Sky Tavern.
Costs and Fundraisers
The school requires a $40 athletic clearance fee for skiers if these fees were not paid during fall sports - this includes the $25 student activity fee and $15 impact (concussion) assessment fee.
Sky Tavern High School Race membership is $350 per year.
Athletic Banquet is TBD (past fee was $10)
Swag - will need a volunteer to take this on.

Far West Regional Race - Mammoth Mountain - March 12-14, 2024
High school athletes from Nevada, NorCal, SoCal, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, and Minnesota will compete in this race. Twelve (12) girls and twelve (12) boys will be selected to represent Nevada.
