Desert Skies is honored to have 4 amazing counselors. Each of our counselors oversees a grade level and our special education population.
Our school counselors are highly educated, professionally certified individuals who help students succeed in school and plan their career.
An integral part of the total education system, school counselors help students form healthy goals, mindsets and behaviors. With the aid of a school counselor, students learn to develop effective collaboration and cooperation skills, to practice perseverance, to develop time management and study skills, and to learn self-motivation and self-direction habits.
Desert Skies is also excited to have a school Social Worker. Our social workers primary responsibility involves helping our students to address problems or issues that may get in the way of learning and competence, such as truancy, rebelliousness, social withdrawal, substance abuse, and bullying.

Washoe County School Districts has some amazing programs that support displaced or families that are in homeless or in transition. Remember that being homeless does not always mean being without a home, sometimes it can mean just being doubled up with another family, or living in a motel.

GOAL SETTING
Goal setting is important at any age, but it’s especially crucial during the middle school years. This is a time when students are exploring their interests and talents and laying the foundation for their future success.
Unfortunately, many students don’t know how to set effective goals. They may set goals that are too vague or too ambitious, which can lead to frustration and disappointment.
The good news is that goal setting is a skill that can be learned.
By teaching your child how to set SMART goals, you can help them make the most of their middle school years and set them up for success in the future.
