    Band Instrument Rental/Purchase Information

It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that families provide their own instrument from a local music store or online retailer. If you are planning to purchase an instrument, PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE ONE “BECAUSE IT WAS CHEAP.” Cheap instruments are cheap for a reason. Walmart/Costco/Uncle Bob’s Wonder Emporium do not offer acceptable quality instruments for our needs. Mr. Scarbrough is happy to provide appropriate recommendations to accommodate any budget.

For those in need of renting a school instrument, please note that the school instrument supply is extremely limited and returning students and those with specialized instruments (tenor/bari sax, tubas, etc.) will take priority. If a student must rent a school instrument, there is a $50 rental fee. Payments can be made using cash or check (made out to MHMS Band). Payment plans are available.

    Purchase Options:

    • Rent-to-own from a local music store (or online).  Prices: $30 – 50 per month. Music stores and locations are available on the Herz Music website. Over time, you will come to own the instrument, typically about 2 years.
    • Purchase from a local music store or online (not recommended for beginners).  PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE “BECAUSE IT WAS CHEAP.” Cheap instruments are cheap for a reason. If you are going to purchase, Mr. Scarbrough is happy to provide appropriate recommendations to accommodate any budget

    Rental Options:

    • Rental from Music Store: Families review prices from different stores and then go in to rent. Payments made do not contribute towards ownership of the instrument.
    • Rent School–owned instruments: Instruments are distributed on a first come first serve basis, with priority given to Advanced Band students.  For all school-owned instruments, Mr. Scarbrough will then send home a rental contract.  Students will not receive school instruments until Mr. Scarbrough has received the completed contract and payment. Each instrument has a required $50 rental fee. Payment plans are available.
