• Each year, you have the opportunity to join a theatre class. Request any of the classes below on your form or talk to your counselor to be enrolled.

     

    Acting Track

    Drama 1-2  

    Credit: ½ credit per semester                                           

    Fee: $15.00 per year 

    Pre-Requisite: none 

    This is an introductory level drama course and a first step for ALL other drama/theatre courses. We will focus on all aspects of theatre including acting, directing, design, technical theatre, playwriting and theatre history. The main focus of the class is using our tools as actors to communicate the story to the audience and making choices as an actor to make our performance unique. This class is performance based and students will develop life skills such as creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, being comfortable in front of others, and empathy. Students will develop skills through guided instruction and use the skills they learn in their rehearsal process. Students will perform their work for the rest of the members of their class. 

     

    Drama 3-4

    Credit: ½ credit per semester 

    Fee: $25.00 per year 

    Pre-Requisite: Drama 1-2 or teacher approval

    This course is an intermediate level drama course in acting, technical theatre, and play production. Instruction will include units in method acting, scene study, character development, set design, critical analysis, and interpretation through playwrighting, monologues, scenes, and production of a one-act play.  Technical Theatre activities will include set building and design, costume, lighting and sound design.  Student participation in some co-curricular activities will be required.  NOTE:  This course fulfills the Art/Humanities graduation requirement if taken for full year. 

     

    Drama-5-6 

    Credit:  ½ credit per semester 

    Fee: $ 25.00 per year 

    Pre-Requisite:  Drama 3-4 or teacher approval

    This advanced level drama course is designed to offer instruction and experience in acting, directing, writing, and play production.  Instruction will focus on expanding the students’ understanding of method acting, scene study, character development, set design, critical analysis, and interpretation through playwrighting, monologues, scenes, and production of a one-act play.  Technical Theatre activities will include set building and design, costume, lighting and sound design.  Student participation in some co-curricular activities will be required. This class will also prepare students for auditions for plays or to get into an acting program through the development of an audition binder.  NOTE:  This course fulfills the Art/Humanities graduation requirement if taken for full year. This class can be repeated for credit. 

     

     

    Musical Theatre Track

    Musical Theatre Workshop 

    Credit: ½ credit per semester                   

    Fee: $25.00 

    Pre-Requisite:  None

    This course is for theatre students who want to explore more in depth the elements of Musical Theatre. Musical theatre has developed so actors are required to act, sing, and dance, so we focus on all three elements through the year to make each student a triple-threat. We learn through the development of our class Broadway Revue, where the instructor will choose medleys from Broadway shows and students will be taught to sing, act, and dance for performance. Solo and small group performances will be developed using the skills taught and performed for the revue. Techniques will vary from year to year depending on the skill level and needs of the pieces developed in the class.   NOTE: This course fulfills the Art/Humanities graduation requirement if taken for full year. 

     

    Musical Theatre - Advanced 

    Credit: ½ credit per semester 

    Fee: $25.00 

    Pre-Requisite: Musical Theatre Workshop or teacher approval

    This course is designed to prepare students to enter a college musical theatre program. Musical theatre students are expected to have training in acting, singing, and dance in order to further their career as a Musical Theatre Performer. While they will further their study of each of these elements, students need to have a grasp of each when they enter their chosen program. Students will prepare auditions and learn auditioning techniques, prepare examples of their work, and work as a class on a Broadway Revue that will be performed at the end of the year. Different techniques will be explored for each element of theatre depending on the requirements of the pieces selected by the students and instructor. This class will also include techniques on how to care for your voice and body, your two tools as a performer.  Although most of the work will be done in class, student participation in the school musical will be required. NOTE: This course fulfills the Art/Humanities graduation requirement if taken for full year. This class can be repeated for credit.

     

    Technical Track

    Technical Theatre I

    Credit: ½ credit per semester 

    Fee: $25.00 per year 

    Pre-Requisite: None

    This course is ideal for students who are interested in every facet of theatre except acting. We will explore the Theatre Hierarchy of technical theatre and students will take on the roles of carpenter, painter, electrician, light board operator, sound board operator, costume crew, props crew, and marketing. Skills will be taught as we explore each of these roles. Students will help build costumes, sets, props, focus lights, and help with sound equipment and marketing for each production through the year in order to have hands on learning. Appropriate use of technology and industry-standard equipment is a vital part of this course. Students must be able to accept direction and act with maturity. Although most work is completed in class, some student participation in co-curricular activities is required. 18 extra-curricular lab hours required.   

     

    Technical Theatre II

    Credit: ½ credit per semester  

    Fee: $25.00 per year 

    Pre-Requisite: Technical Theatre I & MUST have worked on ONE Theatre Production. With teacher approval.  

    This course is a continuation of Technical Theatre I. We will explore the Theatre Hierarchy of technical theatre and students will take on the roles of Technical Director, Master Painter, Master Electrician, Costumer, Props Master, and Marketing. Skills will be taught as we explore each of these roles. Students will plan and oversee Tech I students in the build of costumes, sets, props, the focus of lights, and prepare sound equipment and marketing for each production through the year in order to have hands on learning. Appropriate use of technology and industry-standard equipment is a vital part of this course. Ability and willingness to be a positive student leader is mandatory. Students must be able to accept direction and act with maturity. Work on the after-school productions is required. 

     

    Theater Design Technology III

    Credit: ½ credit per semester        

    Fee: $25.00 per year 

    Pre-Requisite: Technical Theatre II & MUST have worked on TWO Theatre Productions.

    This course is a continuation of Technical Theatre II. We will explore the Theatre Hierarchy of technical theatre and students will take on the roles of Set Designer, Lights Designer Costume Designer, and Marketing. Skills will be taught as we explore each of these roles and students will serve as a designer for each production through the year. Instruction places strong emphasis on design processes, from research and the study of elements and principles of art, through model building and renderings. Students will create renderings, models, and plans that communicate their design with Tech II students, who will bring them to life for the production. Appropriate use of technology and industry-standard equipment is a vital part of this course. Ability and willingness to be a positive student leader is mandatory. Students must be able to accept direction and act with maturity. Work on the after-school productions is required. 

    Upon successful completion of this course, students will have acquired entry-level skills for employment in this field.
