Engaging in community service provides students with the opportunity to become active members of their community and has a lasting, positive impact on society at large. Community service or volunteerism enables students to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as provide aservice to those who need it most.
Students must earn 2.5 hours per quarter - 5 hours a semester. This time must be earned outside the regular school day hours of 7:30-2:00 or during lunch. Sometimes there are opportunites to earn these hours through after school leadesrhip events by making advertisements, setting up school event decorations, or helping a teacher in the building. Students will also be given other opportunities of service in the community, such as picking up Mendive’s adopted park. It is the students’ responsibility to have an adult sign their Service Hour Log in order to receive credit for their time. Students must turn in a signed log sheet at the end of the semester in order to receive hours.
