This course introduces students to the fundamentals of Military Science. Areas of emphasis include introduction to JROTC, foundation of leadership, citizenship, wellness, physical fitness, and first aid. Students will also gain experience in specific branch topics related to their program (Air Force/Space Force, Army, Marine Corps, or Navy).
Additional Information: JROTC prepares students for life after high school in civilian and military careers. Employers look for the skills and individual attributes of leadership, ability to work well with small groups, and personal discipline developed through JROTC. Areas of emphasis include foundation of leadership, citizenship, wellness, and physical fitness. JROTC students can also choose to compete on several teams at the district, state, or national level. Teams include Air Rifle, Cyber Security, Military Drill, and Physical Fitness.

Military Science II (Honors)

This course is a continuation of Military Science I. This course provides military science students the ability to further their skills and knowledge levels. Areas of emphasis include personal growth, basic leadership, military careers, military branch core values, and communications. Students will also gain experience in specific branch topics related to their program (Air Force/Space Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy). The appropriate use of technology and industry-standard equipment is an integral part of this course.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have acquired entry-level skills for employment and be prepared for postsecondary education.

JOTC Marskmanship

One year = 1 creditPrerequisite: Participant must attend an air rifle safety class, pass the air rifle safety test with a 100%, and be able to conform to the prone, kneeling, and standing marksmanship positions.
This is a two-semester class where students will demonstrate air rifle safety and the basics of shooting targets (paper/electronic) from a variety of positions. Students will have the opportunity to qualify with the air rifle. The course is divided into air rifle safety, basic air rifle marksmanship, and competitive air rifle matches. There is no combat training in this class.

This course is for JROTC Cadets in leadership positions to master goal setting, teamwork and the administrative tasks required of an effective JROTC battalion. Cadets will learn critical soft skills including leadership and followership, interpersonal communication and gain firsthand experience in managerial roles.
