Together we educate and inspire the whole child to SHINE at school, at home, and in our community!
To build a strong foundation for our students to shine to their full potential, embrace a growth mindset, and courageously tackle any challenge that comes their way!
Opened in 1997, Bernice Mathews Elementary School has always been a place where children love to learn. We’ve long been a place where the parents of our students can be proud to send their children. We have the benefit of a multicultural environment in which we can foster understanding and acceptance in an effort to give our students an advantage over the world when they do finally leave our supportive walls. In addition, we successfully teach children to read, write, work with numbers, and think. To help assure academic success we provide children a comprehensive intervention program. Our focus is academic growth for all, with no exceptions, no excuses. And no wasted time.
We believe ALL children have the potential to achieve at a high level. ALL children CAN and DO learn, given high expectations, grade-level curricula, and appropriate support.
We believe all teachers guide students to reach their highest potential by fostering relationships, maintaining high expectations, modeling a growth mindset, and teaching students to think, solve, and produce grade-level work.
We believe all families want what is best for their children and are necessary partners in guiding students to reach their highest potential. All families can be empowered to engage in honest conversations and positive interactions as integral members of the school community.
We believe our community is a critical stakeholder who partners with school staff and families in recognizing the importance of student success, modeling successful citizenship, and developing future leaders.
