Principal's Message
Dear Colleagues, Parents, and Students:
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter to you as the incoming principal at Westergard Elementary School. It is truly an honor to become a part of the Westergard family and community. Even though I have only had limited interactions thus far, I can already tell that it is a unique and special place that I am incredibly excited to become a part of.
I come to you with 14 years of experience as an educator. I have spent much of my career at the K-8 level. Most recently I have served as Principal at Incline Elementary School in Incline Village. Previously, I served as an Assistant Principal and Principal at the high school level in Northeastern Nevada.
On a personal level, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Alyse, and our 3 high energy kids. I have a 6-year-old son, a 3-year-old daughter, and a 2-year-old son. We love watching and playing sports, going hiking, watching movies, and going on road trips. Much of our off time is involved with swimming lessons, playing soccer, and learning how to ride bikes. I understand firsthand the joys and challenges of being a proud parent.
This summer, I plan to spend the majority of my time working to ensure a smooth transition. I will get to know our building, our community, and familiarize myself with the unique opportunities our school provides. I believe wholeheartedly that every student deserves a quality education and that only happens when everyone works together for the best interests of our children. I also believe in the power of building positive relationships. Open communication and mutual respect open doors and allows for all voices to be heard.
I am truly honored to be given this opportunity and look forward to meeting all of you. I’m driven by doing what’s best for kids, and I can’t wait to work hand in hand with each of you to make that a reality. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share.
Best regards,
John Stern
