    Dear Families,

Thank you for joining us at the fall carnival! It was a great fundraiser with each participating class earning over $100 for use in their classroom. We appreciate your support! Students have been hard at work using our new ELA Benchmark curriculum for reading, writing and word study.

You may see some new reading coming home. A big focus of our program is using the text to find evidence for an answer, so you may see students highlighting and writing questions as they read.

As we head into October, we will review with students the idea of STOP-WALK-TALK as a problem-solving strategy for smaller problems. When kids are having a problem with something someone is doing, we ask them to tell the person to stop, and if they do not, to walk and talk to a teacher to get assistance. This is a great thing to review with your child.

We look forward to seeing you at conferences to share your child’s progress and make ongoing goals for the year!

    ~Ms. Thaxton
