  • Welcome to 2019-2020!

    Dear Families,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!  I am so happy to serve as the new principal of Double Diamond! This will be my 24th year in education, and my 18th year in Washoe County. I have been a teacher and instructional coach for 19 years and an administrator for the past 4 years.

We have many exciting changes for this upcoming school year. We are now going to be a school on the “balanced calendar.” You can click here to access the balanced calendar. This means we will attend from Aug. 12, 2019 until June 5, 2020. Additionally, school hours will change. The new school hours are from 9:15 – 3:15 daily, with every Wednesday being an early release for students at 2:30. This provides our teachers time to plan and work together to better support all of our students at Double Diamond.

Our student population will also be smaller for the upcoming year which will provide us with a tightly-knit community. We encourage parents and guardians to participate through the PTO and by volunteering at the school.  Please contact the office to apply to be a volunteer at our school.

I look forward to partnering with you and getting to know your students.  I know we will have a successful 2019-2020 school year together!

    Heather Thaxton
