A Sparks elementary school received national recognition for academic performance and progress closing achievement gaps among student groups.
Florence Drake Elementary School is the school district's first Title 1 school to earn the National Blue Ribbon honor, according to a press statement from the Washoe County School District.
It was one of 297 schools that received the honor this year, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
“All of us have worked as partners to support our students and provide them with the tools and resources they need to succeed," Dr. Nichole Truax, who served as principal of Florence Drake Elementary School during the 2021-22 school year, said in a statement. "It has been a great honor and a privilege to work with them on behalf of our students.”
