• Principal's Message

    December 2022

    Picollo Families,

We had a busy and productive month of November with many changes to the schedule, students adjusted well. We celebrated our first off-campus community-based instructional lesson in three years. On November 18th, a group of our high school students attended a district event to develop social, motor, and recreation skills. Regular services and programs continue through the month of December. Our APE, pool, music, and riding programs continue to welcome students in to work on social, emotional, communication, and motor skills. Teachers and support staff are engaging students in the classroom through corporative learning, strengthening, and building academic and functional skills daily. Our transition age students continue to develop skills in our vocational skills lab and around the school campus.

This month we will have a retired Washoe County School District Principal on site two days a week to support the functions of our school. Dr. Nichole Truax will be here Wednesday and Thursday through December 21, 2022. Her experience and knowledge will be a benefit to our staff and students. I will continue to be available to answer questions, attend IEPs, and manage daily operations to support our staff, students, and families as usual. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

    Thank you,

    Jodee Prudente

    Assistant Principal

    Marvin Picollo School

    Muchas gracias,

    Jodee Prudente

    Subdirectora

    November 2022

    Hello Picollo Families and Friends,

As of Monday, 11/7/2022, I will no longer be serving you as the Principal of Marvin Picollo School. It is with both pleasure and sadness that I announce to you, I will be taking advantage of my retirement date, which I have now reached. At this juncture, I would like to assure you that you are in very capable and caring hands, as Jodee Prudente, our Vice-Principal, will oversee the day to day Administration of our school while our School District works out a leadership continuity plan, which will result in the appointment of a  new Principal for Picollo. This transition process will not affect or impact the quality or schedule of specialized educational service that your student receives; oversight of our School at the District level will remain with Jen VanTress, WCSD Special Education Director, a District leader whose expertise has served and benefitted Special Education Services and who has overseen our School, for the past several years.

My 30-year career with the Washoe County School District, the majority of which I served in various capacities at Picollo, has been nothing short of amazing. It has been a privilege to serve your students and to watch them grow as a result of the highly dedicated, qualified and loving staff that we have managed to gather and maintain and an equal privilege to work with you, a community of parents that has taught me immensely about courage, compassion and what really matters at the end of the day. I would like to assure you that I leave Picollo not only in very good shape, but also at a very exciting period of transition, under the Leadership and expert guidance of Mrs. Prudente and a staff of innovative and highly trained experts, that will continue to provide our students the very best possible.

    Thank you again,

     Matt Burak
