Bridge Visits allowed me to connect with the family on a deeper level, even amidst a global pandemic that has largely affected our ability to engage with others. Bridge Visits have provided the opportunity to get to know the family and students on a personal level, without having to discuss school like a typical parent teacher conference. It allowed me to help students goal set and think about their own futures, while reminding them that their family and teachers are also invested in their future as well. - Demi Partyka, Cold Springs Middle School Teacher

I have really enjoyed getting to know our families better. I get to know our students’ interests and struggles better, letting me find new activities for our budding musicians, allowing me to plan time for extra help, and facilitating more informal conversations in class. I can’t wait to do more. - Elyse Evans Kircher, Traner Middle School Teacher

After visiting with families it has made our relationship a lot stronger especially in these times where we can't meet face to face. The families that I have met with have been a lot more responsive on Dojo and shared accomplishments and struggles that I do not believe they would have shared with me prior to our Bridge Visit. - Julianne Prettyman, Lincoln Park ES Teacher

"We had a visit with a mom the other day and she was so excited and pleased that her son has made a connection at school. She was so happy to hear all the wonderful things we had to tell her as well. She shared that he had some tough times and was SO happy that he opened up to someone at school. It was awesome." -Kelly Mitchell, Desert Skies Middle School

I truly love this program and have been apart of it since I was a substitute teacher while completing my requirements for my teaching license. As an educator, you hope you are making a difference, but sometimes do not get a sign from our students. This visit truly came full circle and supports WHY this program is so successful and needed. I joined another teacher on a visit with a student I had several years ago in my classroom. This student was truly struggling, Grandma was at a loss to what to do. During the visit, I just listened, then the student asked to talk to me about how much she was struggling, which at 11-years old was very hard. We chatted a bit about her goals and how she could get support to get her back on track and I reminded her that I would always be around for her. It was then I knew this program builds relationships that will last. The next day, this student dropped by my classroom and told me she was very sorry about how she let things go and wanted to set some goals to become a better student. It took this one visit to re-establish the relationship built a few years ago and this student has been in my class every day after school and on Saturdays to get her failing grades up. Now, she is passing every class and I see her in the halls standing tall and smiling, just like she should be. -Jen Turner, Traner Middle School Teacher
