Dear DDES Families,
We have postponed the multi-track random draw event until February 1st, at 6:00pm. This week, we will be sending home a card to your oldest child enrolled here at DDES. On the card, you will find a household identification number. This is the number that will be used to identify your family during the random draw event. Meaning, when the results are displayed, you will need the household I.D. number to find your families track placement (all siblings will be placed on the same track color). This is in an effort to keep all families information confidential. If you are unable to attend the event next week, we will be mailing home your families track placement.
Tomorrow, is the deadline for submitting the track preference form. Please contact the office if you still need to do so.

I have been thrilled about the number of students that have participated in before and after school learning programs this year. This year by far, was the most students and teacher participation we have ever had. Thank you to everyone that participated. Unfortunately, we have used all of our funding and this will be the final week. If your student currently comes early, or stays late to work in the computer lab or with a teacher, Friday May 5TH will be the final day. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher.
This week, our 5th grade students began completing the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) science tests. Over the next month, all students in grade 3rd-5th will also complete test for math and English language arts. During this time, I ask that you look for communication from your teacher regarding the specific testing time your student is scheduled for. We are encouraging students to get plenty of rest and bring some extra snacks. Most test sessions last around 60-90 minutes, and there are two sections for math, and two sections for English. Only for section will be completed during a day. The results from these tests are used to rate our teachers, administration, and school as a whole. I'm confident that all of our students will utilize the amazing teaching they've received this year and demonstrate those skills on the assessments.
I wanted to update you that this week, the School Board of Trustees voted to continue the plans for our school to convert to the year round schedule this August. Please be sure that your students are registered for the upcoming school year, and that you have completed the track placement process. If you have any questions, please give us a call.
We will be having our annual Spring Thaw Art Exhibition & Silent Auction on March 14, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Double Diamond Elementary. This event is sponsored by the Parent Teacher Organization and all funds raised will be used to bring professional art teachers into your child’s classroom through a partnership with the local non-profit organization, VSA of Nevada – Arts for all Nevada.

The school will be open for an Art Exhibition of your child’s art work that they have created in their classroom this year. Don’t miss this opportunity to see the creative side that each of your children has!
The Silent Auction will have over 40 themed baskets from each class, a private parking spot for 2017/2018, and a chance for your child to be Principal for the Day, Vice Principal for the Day, or Librarian for the Day!
The Raffle will have a wide variety of amazing prizes to choose from including: Photography Packages, Spa Packages, Gym memberships, Gift Baskets, Gift Certificates for Clothing Items, Local Restaurants, and so much more!

Several of our staff members will begin hosting before and after school support for students. The purpose is to provide opportunities for students to receive extra support, or enrichment opportunities. A notice will be coming home today with further details. If you are interested in having your child attend, please send back the form. Depending on the amount of interest we receive, a schedule will be created to accommodate as many students as possible. Next Friday, February 17th, letters will be sent home to students that are able to attend with the specific schedule and teacher contact. The program will then begin Tuesday, February 21st.
