Reed High School modernization project approved  by WCSD Board of Trustees 

Washoe County School District (WCSD) Board of Trustees approved the design phase funding for the Edward C. Reed High School modernization project at the February 13, 2024 meeting. The Board approved Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP)1 to secure the electrical switchgear equipment (order lead time of one year) in October 2024. This project was identified in the 2023 Facility Modernization Plan (FMP). Reed High School was built in 1974 and this modernization project will be replicated in the other high school courtyard models in the district. 

Highlights:

• Modernization project which includes approximately 70,000 square foot expansion, interior improvements, and exterior improvements.
• State-of-the-art teaching and learning spaces include 11 new classrooms, new student hub/group study rooms, new media center, single point of entry/welcome center, restroom conversion, band/orchestra space, and an athletic addition for weights and activity room, new showers and lockers.
• Removal of portable classrooms. 
• New interior corridor surrounding the existing courtyard. Courtyard addition with new shade structure. 
• Exterior improvements include two new tennis courts, a new press box, replacement of football field turf, new grounds storage space, and new outdoor restrooms. 
• Active construction for modernization work while Reed High School continues operating. 
• Construction started in June 2025.
• The expansion and modernization project work has a scheduled completion date of summer 2027.
