Committees of the Board of Trustees

Committees, or Public Bodies, are comprised of volunteers from the community who advise the Board of Trustees and the Superintendent on a variety of topics pertaining to the Washoe County School District, including, among other issues: educational programs, safety, operations, financial reporting, maintenance, and supporting services.

The work of committees helps to ensure that the community has a voice in Washoe County Schol District governance. Members of committees may be parents, staff, community members, or students. Their recommendations to the Board and/or Superintendent help ensure that the Washoe County School District is meeting the needs of our student population as well as our families and staff members.

All of our committee members are volunteers and we thank them for their service to the students, families, and staff of the Washoe County School District.

The Role of Committees

Committees play a vital role in ensuring the needs of students, families, and staff are met. Each committee meeting is an open public meeting and community members are encouraged to attend. Most committees meet on a regular schedule, which you can find by clicking on the various committee pages listed below. At their public meetings, committees deliberate and take action on items that are then recommended to the Board of Trustees or Superintendent for approval.

Who can join a Committee?

The Washoe County School District is always looking for individuals to serve as a member of the committees of the Board of Trustees or Superintendent. Most committees are open to member of the general public; some have geographic requirements or openings for parents, students, and staff. Committee terms are typically 2 years and expire in the summer. Check each committee page below for the committee’s mission, meeting schedule, and membership information.
