WCSD HS Opportunities

High School opportunities in Washoe County School District

Washoe County School District is proud of the wide array of high school educational programs that are available to students in our community. These include zoned traditional comprehensive high schools that offer a variety of courses and programs to help prepare students for a wide range of careers and educational paths, to career and technical schools and college preparatory programs that help prepare students for college and careers by providing them with academic and technical skills, real-world experience, and training for a variety of careers. 

For students wishing to attend a traditional comprehensive high school other than the one for which they are zoned, they must apply through the School of Choice program. For more information and to apply, visit the School of Choice webpage. The Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology (AACT) is an advanced career technical education academy within the Washoe County School District (WCSD). AACT provides the opportunity for students to determine what career or college pathway they want to pursue in post-secondary education. Truckee Meadows Community College High School (TMCC HS) offers a unique opportunity for motivated 10th-12th grade students to earn both a high school diploma and college credits simultaneously, working toward a certificate of achievement or an associate degree. This program provides a mature, supportive environment where students engage in a challenging, project-based curriculum designed to foster critical thinking and high academic achievement. The original PRHHS campus opened on Sutro Street in Reno in 1968 but the school is now in one of the newest and largest facilities (2022) in the district on Sullivan Lane in Sparks.

Incline High School

North Valleys has the district’s only Air Force JROTC program. The school features a career center to assist students with their post-secondary educational options, and offers Advanced Placement courses, fine arts, industrial arts, leadership, and multi-media programs, as well as a complete list of athletics and extra-curricular clubs for our students to explore their interests and diversify their high school experience. NVHS has peer mentors who assist freshmen students in assimilating to our school culture, and a thriving peer mediation program that is available to model conflict resolution skills for students.  

NVHS houses the Center for Agricultural Science & Engineering (CASE), and offers additional CTE programs in culinary arts, cybersecurity, military science, and multimedia communications. 

Reed High School

Spanish Springs HS is one of the largest high schools in Northern Nevada. The school features 14 science labs, five computer labs, a culinary arts center and child development lab, an extensive fine arts wing which houses the visual arts, music, drama with a 500 seat performing arts theatre, a highly functional library and career center, and a 3,000 seat regional gymnasium.
