Distance learning message from Interim Superintendent Dr. Kristen McNeill. (4/14/2020)
This is Kristen McNeill, interim Superintendent for the Washoe County School District with information about the second phase of the Distance Learning plan. Materials are now available on our website atwww.washoeschools.net/distancelearning.
If you have access to a computer and the internet, please access the materials online.
Paper packets will be available at sites throughout the District from Thursday April 16 through Saturday, April 18. Visit www.washoeschools.net or call 211 for the distribution schedule. Paper and online materials are identical.
We are scheduled to resume classes in buildings on May 1. But in case the governor extends the Distance Learning requirement, this phase provides materials from April 20 to May 8. During this time, students in grades 3through 12 may raise their 3rd quarter grade by working with their teacher to complete their work. We want our students to do their very best and will work with you to address any challenges.
We ask that our students finish the materials from the first three weeks before they start working on the materials for the second phase.
Please remember that no child will be retained, nor will their 3rd quarter grades be impacted negatively as long as they engage with their teachers or staff members unless retention was being considered prior to school closure. Students will not be penalized if they don’t complete Distance Learning work and will receive the same grade they earned before the school closures.
We are deeply grateful for your collaboration, understanding, and flexibility as we all navigate this difficult time. We will come out of this together. Thank you.
