WCSD Students’ Pedestrian Safety Artwork
To Be Featured on RTC Buses

Safe Routes to School logoReno, NV (February 19, 2024) – Safe Routes to School will announce the Grand Prize Winner of the First Annual Pedestrian Safety Message Poster Contest by unveiling an RTC bus wrapped with the winning artwork at Peavine Elementary School. Two other WCSD students will also be recognized for their artwork, designed to encourage the community to practice safe driving to protect pedestrians.

The Pedestrian Safety Message Poster Contest is a collaborative effort between Safe Routes to School, the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC), and Blue Zone Sports. Each of the three winning students will receive an iPad and a new bike donated by Safe Routes to School and Blue Zone Sports. The three winners will have their artwork featured on RTC buses for one year.

“This contest is designed to bring pedestrian and bike safety to the forefront of everyone’s mind,” said Jennifer Iveson, coordinator for Safe Routes to School. “Safety is always our highest priority, especially for our students, families, and motorists who share the roadways every day in the neighborhoods surrounding our schools. RTC and Blue Zone Sports are such amazing community partners, as they made it possible for the artwork to be wrapped on the buses and also donated bikes to the winners of our contest. Their support of our students and youth in the community is amazing.”
