On the agenda:
- Trustees will consider whether to authorize the purchase of 1,321 laptop computers for students, using $499,892 in grant funding to replace computers that are outdated or broken. The laptops will address learning loss and will allow schools to efficiently pivot to distance learning for pandemic mitigation or other reasons. - Members of the Board will discuss the possible purchase of 84 replacement school bus camera systems, which would provide upgraded systems and replace cameras and wiring that were initially installed in 2009. - Capital Projects Department is requesting the purchase of new interactive Promethean ActivPanels at approximately six schools for an estimated total cost of $634,729. Funding would be provided by the State of Nevada’s Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds, established in the American Rescue Plan and authorized by the 2021 Nevada Legislature. - Trustees will hear a presentation about the Excellence Targets established for each of the five goals of the WCSD 2023-26 Strategic Plan. These goals include: strong start for every child; student voice and advocacy; safety and belonging; academic growth and achievement; and empowering all learners for their future. These Excellence Targets were created collaboratively by the district’s leadership team, which also identified key actions for staff as they work to achieve excellence for all students. - Trustees will consider a preliminary budget for implementation and support of the Strategic Plan, which will center around key strategies and initiatives aligned to the five goals of the Strategic Plan and districtwide supports. Staff will discuss the initiatives during the presentation. The Board will be presented with a preliminary budget for implementation and support of the strategic plan in the estimated amount of $10 million. - Trustees will join with the community in adopting a resolution to recognize September 15 through October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month. WCSD celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of communities whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. WCSD is committed to celebrating and affirming every student by name, strength and need and providing culturally sustained environments where our diverse students can learn and thrive.
