WCSD Celebrates “Topping Out” at O’Brien Middle School
For Immediate Release
WCSD Celebrates “Topping Out” at
O’Brien Middle School
What: The community is invited to join with the Washoe County School District (WCSD) in celebrating the “Topping Out” ceremony at O’Brien Middle School. The highest beam will be lifted in place at the top of the new school building.
When: Friday, August 20
11:30 a.m.
Where: Construction site behind O’Brien Middle School
10500 Stead Boulevard
Reno
(Do not go to O’Brien Middle School. Exit Highway 395 onto Stead Boulevard and turn right on Silver Lake Road. Turn right into the construction entrance and follow signs to parking.)
Details: Construction continues at the new three-story building at O’Brien Middle School, currently being built on the athletic fields and scheduled for completion in August 2022.
When the building is finished, the old building will be demolished, and new athletic fields will be constructed on the footprint of the old school, scheduled for completion in 2023.
The new school will address current overcrowding challenges in the area, and its construction will allow for all sixth graders to join their seventh- and eighth grade peers in middle school. Students and staff signed their names and messages on the beam this week.
**Attendees, including members of the media, must wear closed-toe shoes and long pants to be admitted to the construction site. Hard hats and safety vests will be provided by WCSD.**
