North Valleys High School Assistant Principal Named NASC Administrator of the Year
North Valleys High School Assistant Principal Named
NASC Administrator of the Year
Reno, NV. (May 6, 2021) – North Valleys High School Assistant Principal Tomás Macaluso has been recognized as Administrator of the Year by the Nevada Association of Student Councils (NASC) for his support of student activities at the school. Macaluso has worked for the Washoe County School District (WCSD) for 16 years and has served as assistant principal at North Valleys High School since 2019.
“Tomás has a strong dedication to all of our students, and I know how much he enjoys supporting them in their student activities,” said NVHS Principal Desiree Mandeville. “Over the past year, when we have found new ways to provide opportunities for students to interact and relate to each other while still maintaining COVID safety mandates, he has worked hard to ensure they are able to participate and spend time with each other. He has encouraged them to focus on the positive and the lessons they can learn, even during these challenging times. I am so proud of his efforts, and I appreciate everything he has done to help and support our students. This is a great recognition of all of his efforts.”
Macaluso serves as advisor for Student Leadership, a group that has planned outreach efforts and activities to support their peers and advise school leaders from a student perspective. North Valleys High School students wrote letters of recommendation to the NASC to nominate Macaluso for the award.
“Winning this award is such a huge honor to me because I was nominated by the students,” said Macaluso. “I love getting to work with motivated young people who want to make school the most amazing place they can. Helping them grow in their own leadership and build a dynamic culture is one of my favorite parts of my job. I am so proud of all they have done this last year and a half to weather the storm of the pandemic and stay as positive and focused as possible.”
