Details: O’Brien STEM Academy is getting a brand new school building and the Washoe County School District is urging residents in Sky Vista to approve a crucial land sale in order to make the project happen.
The new building will be three stories tall and will be built on the location of the athletic fields. Construction is slated to begin in December and the school will open in the fall of 2022. Once the new building opens, the current O’Brien will be demolished and new fields will be built there.
The new school will have additional capacity for future growth in the area and will allow for all 6th graders to join their 7th and 8th grade peers in middle school there.
In order to make Stead Boulevard safer for families, the entrance to O’Brien will be moved to Silver Lake Road. WCSD must purchase two small undeveloped parcels of land from the Sky Vista HOA and is urging all Sky Vista residents to submit their HOA vote to approve the sale. The Sky Vista HOA is comprised of roughly 1,600 homes in the North Valleys. A two-thirds vote of the entire HOA membership is required in order to proceed with the land sale.
The media are invited to attend a Zoom media briefing to learn more about the exciting O’Brien project, see a 3-D rendering of what the new school will look like, and learn more about the role that Sky Vista residents can play to ensure the school is built.
