Flashing Safety Lights Installed at AACT High School

 

Students petition for new safety measure, City of Reno responds with support

 

 

What: Thanks to the leadership of a group of students from the Academy of Arts, Careers & Technology, a new flashing safety light system has been installed in front of their school. This pedestrian safety system will help protect the students and pedestrians who are crossing busy Edison Way.

 

When: Wednesday, January 15

            11 a.m. to 11:25 a.m.

 

Where: Academy of Arts, Careers & Technology

             380 Edison Way

             Reno

 

Details: The media are invited to see the safety lights and hear from the students and dignitaries whose work led to the installation of this new system.

 

Speakers include: WCSD Board Trustee Malena Raymond; Interim Superintendent Dr. Kristen McNeill; AACT students Avery Pipkin, Quincy Mross, and Damyana Mihaylova; Reno City Councilmember Oscar Delgado; and Renown Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine Dr. Joey Gassen.

 

This project, which was organized and launched by a group of dedicated students, will enable their peers to travel more safely to and from school.

 

Agencies that provided resources and support include Sierra Transportation Technologies, Carmanah, the City of Reno, and REMSA.

 

Editors' Notes: Remarks will take place from 11 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., followed by interviews. Students will be available for interviews from 11:15 a.m. until approximately 11:25 a.m.
