WCSD Wins National Award for Excellence

District honored for responsible use of taxpayer funding

Reno, NV (August 16, 2019) – For the 18th consecutive year, the Washoe County School District (WCSD) procurement team has won an award for excellence from the National Procurement Institute (NPI), Inc. This is the 22nd time the District has received the Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award, which honors innovation, professionalism, productivity, e-procurement, and leadership attributes. WCSD is one of only six agencies in Nevada and is among just 23 school districts in the United States and Canada to receive the award.

“Our procurement team is charged with obtaining the services, supplies, and equipment necessary to support our District’s educational mission to prepare our 64,000 students for the 21st century,” said WCSD Chief Financial Officer Mark Mathers. “They consistently ensure that taxpayers are receiving the best possible value for their money, and the fact that we have been awarded this recognition once again shows that we have met and exceeded these standards for more than two decades. I am extremely proud of our team, and grateful that their efforts are being recognized at a national level.”

WCSD’s Department of Procurement & Contracts is charged with using District funds in the most economical and efficient manner possible to purchase quality supplies, equipment, and services to support the District’s educational mission. The team also is responsible for bidding all of the District’s capital projects, including the new schools, safety improvements, and school renovations and repairs made possible by the passage of WC-1 in 2016.

“We welcome the responsibility of ensuring taxpayer dollars are used in the most efficient and effective possible ways, and we take that responsibility seriously,” said Andrea Sullivan, director of Procurement & Contracts for WCSD. “Our team works hard to support our students and staff members throughout the school year. All of us take great pride in the work we do for our community and our schools, and we are grateful to receive this award once again.”
