Reno, NV (June 10, 2019) –The Washoe County School District (WCSD) is seeking applicants for several of its advisory committees. WCSD utilizes a variety of community advisory committees to serve the District’s 64,000 students and their families. To apply, please submit an online application by clicking here before 5 p.m. on June 17, 2019.
All community member and parent terms listed below are two-year terms, slated to begin July 1, 2019 and end on June 30, 2021. All high school student terms are one-year terms, slated to begin July 1, 2019 and end on June 30, 2020.
Sexuality, Health, and Responsibility Education Advisory Committee - Meets periodically, generally monthly (Application closes on June 17 at 5 p.m.)
The S.H.A.R.E. Advisory Committee evaluates and makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees related to the District’s S.H.A.R.E. curriculum. The Committee is seeking to fill the following vacated seats for a term ending June 30, 2021:
- Medical or Nursing Representative
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Advisory Technical Skills Committee and Council on Career & Technical Education – Meets periodically, generally quarterly
The CTE Advisory Technical Skills Committee and Council on Career and Technical Education assist the District in developing and implementing CTE programs, and make recommendations to the Superintendent to establish a cooperative mechanism for local business and industry to support the instruction, facilities, and equipment necessary for the programs, and to help secure employment for students who complete the programs.
- WCSD Career & Technical Education (CTE) High School Student
- Professional who works in the area of agriculture or natural resources
Audit Committee - Meets periodically, generally monthly
As a committee to the Board of Trustees, the function of the Audit Committee is to assist the Trustees in fulfilling their oversight responsibilities related to the District's financial and other reporting obligations, internal control processes, and compliance with laws, regulations and ethics.
- Community member with a background in business, finance, auditing or the law
School Naming Committee - Meets periodically, generally monthly
The School Naming Committee makes recommendations related to the naming of new schools. The committee is seeking to fill the following seat for a one-year term ending June 30, 2020:
- WCSD High School Student
