WCSD Introduces Countdown to Graduation for 2019

Twenty-two graduates applauded for outstanding accomplishments on road to graduation

Reno, NV (May 9, 2019) – The Washoe County School District (WCSD) is celebrating the achievements of 22 graduates in the Class of 2019 as the District unveils its annual Countdown to Graduation campaign. This year, an inspiring group of graduates will be profiled during the month-long countdown that begins with the kickoff on Friday, May 10 and concludes on Friday, June 7.

Countdown graduates represent a wide variety of experiences both inside and outside school. This year’s campaign features two sets of twins, a student who is a refugee from Kenya, students who have overcome medical challenges, and many others whose success stories offer an inspirational glimpse into the lives of the 2019 graduating class.

“I look forward to our Countdown to Graduation every year, because it truly is a celebration of our students’ lives, commitments, and accomplishments,” said WCSD Superintendent Traci Davis. “I am so impressed with our group of graduates this year, and I applaud them, their families, and the staff members who worked alongside them to provide the supports and resources they needed to achieve this important goal. These students—and thousands more like them—have worked hard to earn their high school diplomas, and I am incredibly proud of all of them.”

“This is a special time of year for all of us at WCSD,” said Board of Trustees President Katy Simon Holland. “I know our students and families look forward to celebrating this milestone, as it is truly a time to pause and reflect on the tremendous efforts of our students, families, and staff members that make it possible for our students to reach the graduation stage. Graduation opens doors to the future for each of our scholars, and we know that they achieved this goal with the help of many people who believe in them and look forward to the accomplishments that lie ahead. On behalf of my fellow trustees, I congratulate everyone who played a role in this year’s celebration.”

One Countdown graduate will be profiled each day during the campaign: their stories will be posted on the District’s Facebook page and the District’s website. Beginning Friday, May 10 watch the kickoff video and read the daily profiles at www.washoeschools.net/countdown.
