WCSD Kindergartners and Their Families

Invited to Register for 2019-2020 School Year

The road to graduation begins in kindergarten

Reno, NV (March 15, 2019) -- The Washoe County School District (WCSD) is registering kindergartners for the 2019-2020 school year.

“We look forward to meeting our newest students and welcoming them to school in the fall,” said Kacey Edgington, WCSD kindergarten coordinator. “Families may register their students online, and we encourage our parents to begin the registration process now. Preparing to attend kindergarten is an important part of assuring that our young students begin their academic careers in a positive way.”

Any child who will be five years old on or before Sept. 30, 2019 may enroll in kindergarten for the upcoming school year. After completing the online registration process, parents may then visit their child’s school with their student’s original birth certificate, immunization records, and a utility bill that shows the parent or guardian’s name and address as proof of residence to the zoned school.

Parents who are unsure about which school their child should attend can visit the District website to receive the name and address of their zoned school. Parents who do not have access to a computer may use a computer at any WCSD school. The website also features step-by-step instructions in both English and Spanish to help parents use the online kindergarten registration program. The registration link is available at https://www.washoeschools.net/Page/10776

WCSD will open one new elementary school in August 2019: Nick Poulakidas Elementary School is located in south Reno and will help ease overcrowding at schools in the area.

“The kindergarten year is a wonderful time in a student’s life, and we look forward to working with our parents to get the year off to a great start,” said Edgington. “School is an important part of our students’ lives, and it’s critical that they get off to a great start. Our staff is standing by to help if parents have questions or concerns. Our online registration system is easy to use, so now is the time to register our kindergartners for the coming year.”

Kindergartners and their families will be able to start the registration process at this weekend’s “Summer Expo and Family Fair” at Meadowood Mall. District staff members will be available to help begin the process at the booth located in the Center Court from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 16.
