WCSD Board of Trustees Awards Final Contract for

Construction of John Bohach Elementary School

Reno, NV (March 12, 2019) – The Washoe County School District (WCSD) Board of Trustees voted today to award the final construction contract for the new John Bohach Elementary School in Spanish Springs to Q&D Construction, paving the way for construction to begin in the coming months.

“One of the highlights of our jobs as Trustees is overseeing the school construction projects that the community approved in 2016,” said WCSD Board President Katy Simon Holland. “The open, competitive low-bid process got us a $34.9 million project going to a local contractor and more than 85 percent local subcontractors. We are ensuring transparency and accountability with these funds, and we continue to create good middle class jobs in our community. The best thing, of course, is the benefit from a brand new school that relieves overcrowding and gives our community room to grow and learn.”

This new elementary school is scheduled to open at the beginning of the school year in August 2020. It will be the same model as Nick Poulakidas Elementary School, which is currently under construction in south Reno. H+K Architects designed both buildings.

John Bohach Elementary School is located next door to Sky Ranch Middle School, which is currently under construction in Spanish Springs.

Reno Police Officer John Bohach served in a variety of roles in his 13 years as a sworn officer, including as a detective in the Juvenile Crimes Division. At the time, he was one of the few officers who spoke Spanish, which allowed him to act as a liaison between Spanish-speaking students and families and the Reno Police Department. He was killed in the line of duty in 2001.
