Thousands of Students to Gather for
4th Annual WCSD Career Expo
What: More than 5,000 eighth-graders will attend the Fourth Annual WCSD Career Expo this week, where they will learn about high-demand jobs and educational opportunities in Northern Nevada.
When: Thursday, November 8 and Friday, November 9
10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Where: Reno-Sparks Convention Center
4590 S. Virginia St.
Details: Multiple businesses, industries, and government entities will host interactive hands-on activities and workshops to showcase many careers during this two-day event. Students will also have the opportunity to investigate high school and community college educational opportunities.
All participating businesses and agencies are partnering with the Washoe County School District to expose middle school students to career opportunities and help students become more “career aware” so they make informed choices when they enter high school.
Among the agencies scheduled to be represented at the event are:
• Q&D Construction
• Nevada Builders Alliance
• Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)
• And numerous local manufacturers
Editors’ Note: WCSD is dedicated to preparing students for the world and workplaces of the 21st century, and an important part of that mission is ensuring that students learn about careers and educational opportunities early in their academic careers. The District is grateful to the many local, regional, and national organizations whose representatives attend this event to talk with our eighth-graders about their interests and goals.
Members of the media should call Robin Tanner, Career & Technical Education, at (775) 848-0519 upon arrival at the event.
