What about the new marijuana tax? Won’t that generate revenue for schools?
Only about 15 percent wholesale tax on the sales of recreation and medical marijuana will go to schools. WCSD does not have this money yet.
In Fiscal Year 2018, tax revenue generated from marijuana sales is being deposited into the state’s rainy day fund.
Ultimately, these revenues should go into the Distributive School Account, a state fund for public education managed by state officials. The account will redistribute money to Nevada school districts through an established formula that includes school enrollments and local revenue.
